"Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, BEGIN IT. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now." -Goethe
Personally Fit Yoga aims to make yoga accessible to everyone at any age and ability level. Although many studios may make this claim, advanced postures are permitted and encouraged, thereby making the novice and intermediate discouraged or peer-competative. Whereas the westernization of yoga emphasizes dominantly on the postures, making yoga more about the athletics, the calorie burn, the toned body, the sculpted buttocks, the hot temperatures, Personally Fit Yoga does not.
I believe a yoga practice is a customary and personal health plan, similar to a prescription from your doctor for optimal health and it should include many factors: asanas (postures), breathing techniques (pranayama), meditation (dhayana), conscientious diet, ayurveda (the eastern science theory of knowledge/wisdom), self focused discipline (tapas), compassion for others.
In my ten years of yoga teaching, my students have encouraged and inspired me to create a place where this is honored. Herin lies this place!
Personally Fit Yoga: It's a yoga practice for those with real life bodies and real life issues. There are no advanced strength postures like headstands, handstands, scorpion poses, or "pretzel-like" postures in group classes.
Group classes are Power Yoga 101 for Strength, and
Yin Yoga for Flexibility. Combine them twice weekly for Optimal Health!
"The Tao of nurturing life requires that one keep oneself as fluid and flexible as possible. One should not stay still for too long; nor should one exhaust oneself by trying to perform impossible tasks. One should learn how to exercise from nature by observing the fact that water never stagnates and a busy door with active hinges never rusts or rots. Why? Because they exercise themselves perpetually and are almost always moving." -- Sun Ssu-Mo, Tang Dynasty Physician
